A Browns fan's reaction

I'm a week late on this video, but because it's about the terrible Browns, I have a feeling this could be replayed every week and still be applicable. Note: One of the words he uses about 20 seconds isn't exactly school/work/child friendly, but otherwise the video is clean.

Penalties and turnovers

Browns writer Jeff Schudel tweeted from coach Eric Mangini's press conference Monday and started with this message:

#Browns Eric Mangini reiterates to his team penalties and turnovers are hurting the Browns, he said at the start of his press conference.

Ain't that the truth.

The Browns' first games this season were both games they could have won. I don't know if I'd say they should have won the games, though, because they committed stupid errors that contributed to their losses. Mangini apparently knows that penalties and turnovers are what is really hurting them when they have the opportunity to take the lead or win the game. But I wonder what he is going to do about it. Those mistakes could be contributed to immature, undisciplined players and poor coaching.

Those issues aren't affecting the entire team because there are mature, disciplined, talented players on the team (like Josh Cribbs). But if the Browns want to have a winning season, they need to get the stupid mistakes figured out soon -- otherwise we'll all be just waiting until next year, again.

Goodbye, Brady!

Well, I'd like to say it's been fun, Brady Quinn, but we both know it hasn't been.

My unspoken rivalry with BQ goes back to his days at Notre Dame. As an Ohio State Buckeye at heart (though I'm actually an Ohio University Bobcat), I disliked the quarterback for the Fighting Irish and cheered heartily against him during the 2005 Fiesta Bowl. My disdain for him could have gone back further to his days at Dublin Coffman, as I am a graduate of Westerville North. Dublin and Westerville are fairly similar suburbs on the north side of Columbus. We could trade stereotypes here, but I digress.

I never had much use for Brady Quinn, never had much of a reason to like the guy. Even when he was drafted by the Browns, I didn't care much for him. When he got out on the field in the brown and orange, I had even less of a reason to want him playing for my team.

Brady Quinn has not been a good quarterback. He is not what the team needed to turn around and get a winning season. He is a backup quarterback who was put in a starting position and could not play well enough consistently to keep his job.

I am tired of hearing people who think we need to "give Brady a chance!" He had his chance, and he proved he couldn't do it. I am glad he is out of Cleveland. Maybe he will play well with the Broncos.

As a 20something straight female, I think I'm supposed to have some sort of crush on Brady Quinn. But I don't care what he looks like. I only care about whether he can complete passes and score touchdowns. If you can't do that, get out of Cleveland. The Browns have been miserable enough to watch, and I'm glad the new management isn't keeping around a pretty face just because fans hope he has a good career.

Braylon Trade Shows Another Draft Blunder

Once we’re all done making jokes about Braylon Edwards dropping the New Year’s ball in New York and finished pretending that he won’t boost the Jets offense, we can view yesterday’s trade for one of its large, yet underlying ramifications — that the Browns have no clue.

Edwards was likely leaving after this season anyway, so the front office got what they could. I get it, and on that front, the trade had to be done and results in a very minor success. But why did it come to this?

Browns Town? Ugh...

Killing a pedestrian with your car while possibly intoxicated? Sending explicit text messages to a fan during a game?

How about signing also-rans like Hank Poteat?

If you’re looking for more reasons to turn this Browns Town into a Cavs Metropolis, the folks in Berea will never let you down.

Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are sporting the best record in basketball. They’re clicking on all cylinders and have a very realistic chance at bringing a trophy and respect back to Northeast Ohio.

But silly me. Of course it’s more fun to call talk radio shows and debate about which 50 percent passer should be our starting quarterback.

It might be hard to tell at this point, but I am a Cleveland Browns fan. However, I’m also a realist. The team has done nothing to remain in at the forefront of our athletic conscious.

Many of the players’ behavior on and off the field has embarrassed us all and caused our friends from other NFL cities to disparage us until we begged for mercy. What’s more, the new general manager/head coach tandem barely speaks to us through any medium. So why, then, do we continue talk about which then next draft pick they’ll likely screw up in Browns fashion?

Another cornerstone of Browns fashion is venting and complaining. That’s exactly what I’m doing here, nothing more. I won’t be withdrawing my fan card anytime soon and I won’t ask you to, either.

What I will ask, though, is that if you’re going to show up downtown to tailgate at odd hours of the day, how about doing it for the team that actually wins?

It’s true, there’s nothing like football, but there’s also nothing like LeBron James. Remember that, in the coming months when he and his teammates make a deep playoff run, but still find themselves sharing ink and airtime with a team that would shock the world by winning half of its games in 2009.

You know it will happen.
